John Wieglein, Head Of WNT Radio Project, Is Hospitalized

John Wieglein, head of the World News Trust radio project since 2002, has been permanently hospitalized, his family said.

Wieglein has suffered for years from lymphatic cancer. He was instrumental in launching a prototype WNT 24/7 web news and issues radio station in early 2003.

John was a radio personality and disk jockey in Buffalo during the 1980's and 90's. He is committed to advancing progressive issues and fair reporting of the news.

The 2005 National Conference for Media Reform will provide a forum to discuss visionary and practical solutions to the problems of our media.

The conference will bring together activists, media creators, academics, and policy-makers for three days of learning, sharing, networking and momentum-building.

Participants will:

  • Learn about media policy in the United States and abroad and discuss visions for a more public-interest-oriented media system in the United States;

  • Build skills for media reform activism;

  • Discover "who's doing what" in various sectors of media reform activism and hear about models for successful campaigns and actions;

  • Discuss goals and strategies for advancing positive media policy and increasing public participation in media policy-making;

  • Network and meet others interested in media reform.

The conference program will include three days of panel presentations, workshops, and discussion sessions, as well as a reception, video screenings, book signings, and keynote speeches and musical entertainment by renowned guests.

The development coordinator will work under the direction of the managing director to coordinate all aspects of World News Trust's development efforts.

Duties include: Solicitation of donations and grants from foundations and individuals. Cultivation of potential donors; Research of potential funding sources; Stewardship of donors; Working directly with individual board members to engage them in development and assist them in fundraising; Tracking of fundraising progress; Management of the development database; Grant proposal writing.

Necessary skills and experience: Strong computer and writing skills; Exceptional customer relations skills. Experience with non-profit development and fundraising.
